How Well Do You Know Your Family’s History?

With the loss of each generation, a little bit of family history slips away…never to be told again. It’s up to you (person reading this) to help preserve as much family history as possible so future generations will know where they came from, who they are. And the time is right now. Ever wonder - how much do I know? Should I know more? How should I be documenting this? Taking this short quiz will give you an idea of how much you know, get you to start thinking about the questions you should be asking and offer a meaningful way to preserve what you have. It’s all important, no matter how much or how little.

  1. Who is the oldest relative (living or deceased) that you can name and describe?

  2. Do you know where your ancestor’s origins are? And how your family came to live where they do?

  3. Do you know how your parents met?

  4. Do you know how your grandparents met?

  5. Are there any family heirlooms, photos, or documents that have been passed down through generations?

  6. Do you know where the family photos/documents are stored? And the stories behind them?

  7. Do you know of any medical histories or genetic traits that run in your family?

  8. Are there any special talents/skills in your family line?

  9. Have you asked your elder relatives for some of their best life advice on careers, marriage, parenting, etc.?

  10. Do you know some of the greatest challenges each of your parents have had to face and how they overcame them?

  11. How do I document all of this for us? For future generations?

It may seem overwhelming. Consider a Family Legacy Film. Where all the stories, the pictures, the voices and emotions…are captured on film. A Family Legacy Film is a meaningful way to preserve all the stories, the history.

Captured now. Shared with the future. Treasured forever.
